Abstract

The concept presented for consideration constitutes a dual model of personality that describes the structure and dynamics of psychological functioning across different types. At the structural level, personality is defined as a basic stable configuration of impulsive energy and social filters. At the functional level, it is represented by the subject's capacity to generate impulsive energy (natural activity) and to structure it within the bounds of operative social filters. The juxtaposition of these two self-regulation parameters allows for the identification of four principal personality types. Specifically, the congruent type is characterized by impulses and filters of approximately equal strength; the conformist type demonstrates a marked predominance of filters over impulses; in the psychotic type, impulses predominate over filters; and in the isolated type, a proportional weakness of both impulses and filters is observed. Personality types are conceptualized as psychological attractors toward which the subject gravitates in the course of their life activity. The psychodynamics of personality types are a consequence of the individual's movement away from or toward a psychological attractor. Personality dynamics become pronounced either in the case of type deformation – when substantial changes occur in the strength of expression of one self-regulation parameter (impulses or filters) – or in the case of personality type compensation, when both parameters (impulses and filters) undergo simultaneous modification. The processes of typological deformation and compensation determine differing levels of neurotization in the individual. In the case of typological deformation, neurotization is moderate: this is objectified in the reduction of attractor depth, yet the subject remains within its bounds, albeit exhibiting behavior somewhat atypical of their type. In the case of personality type compensation, neurotization becomes severe, and the risk of attractor change may be predicted with a high degree of probability – a shift that manifests as a typological transition of the personality.
