PSYCHOLOGICAL SUCCESS FACTORS AND ADAPTATION STRATEGIES OF WOMEN IN POLITICAL LEADERSHIP ROLES IN UKRAINE

The article examines the psychological factors of success and adaptation strategies of women in political leadership roles in Ukraine. The authors note that contemporary transformations in the political sphere and the increasing participation of women in decision-making are accompanied by socio-psychological challenges, including gender stereotypes and high demands on competence and personal qualities. The theoretical analysis covers both gender and biological approaches to political leadership, as well as studies of cognitive and emotional resources of women leaders. The empirical study was conducted on a sample of 30 women, including deputies, heads of local government bodies, and leaders of public organizations in the city of Kryvyi Rih. To assess psychological resources, the study employed Bem’s «Masculinity–Femininity» scale, Belbin’s «Leader Type» questionnaire, and an adapted version of the Stress and Coping Strategies (SACS) methodology. The results revealed a balance of masculine and feminine traits, providing a combination of initiative, responsibility, and empathy necessary for effective team interaction and managerial decision-making. Age-related differences were observed in leadership styles: younger participants generated ideas more actively, middle-aged participants coordinated and evaluated team activities, and older participants ensured stability and task completion. Analysis of coping strategies demonstrated the predominance of socially oriented and constructive approaches, including seeking support, cautious and rational actions, which contribute to maintaining psycho-emotional resilience and effectiveness in a political environment. The integration of cognitive and emotional resources, strategic thinking, and adaptive coping strategies is identified as a key factor in the successful performance of women leaders. The findings have practical implications for developing leadership support programs, mentoring initiatives, and overcoming gender barriers in the political sphere.
